Panel dealt with education, proper training and a sustainable approach in the tire retreading sector

During the second day of the EXPOBOR and PNEUSHOW trade fairs, one of the rubber industry’s main events, experts discussed strategies for solid growth in tire retreading in a panel mediated by Beto Arnaud Jr, founder of Clínica do Pneu. According to the Brazilian Tire Retreading Association (ABR), tires are the second or third biggest cost for transport companies. Therefore, tire retreading becomes essential in this scenario, as it generates savings and reduces operating costs.

Antonio Xavier, known as Dr. Pneu and founder of CPK Consultoria, began the debate by emphasizing the importance of the retreadability index and highlighting education as a crucial way to reduce the waste of money and tires. According to him, the main agent of transformation is the retreader, who, through proper training, can maximize the efficiency and durability of tires. “With education, proper training and a sustainable approach, the tire retreading sector has great potential for growth, contributing significantly to the circular economy and sustainability in Brazil,” Xavier reinforces.

For the training specialist at Paludo Treinamento & Consultoria, Diego Paludo, “there is a need for continuous training for professionals in the sector. Well-defined processes, efficient management tools and trained people are the fundamental pillars for improving tire retreading.” The businessman also warned about the risks of opting for cheaper tires, which can lead to additional retreading costs and inadequate maintenance, and cited the importance of technology. “The retreading process has evolved in an absurd way, but it’s still very manual. Today’s technologies and tools help to make this process safer. The more this technique has evolved, the safer it is for us to retread and enjoy the benefits,” he adds.

Alexei Nicolino, CEO of Budini Incorporated, brought the issue of sustainability into the debate, explaining that tire retreading should be seen as reuse, not just recycling. He refuted the idea that sustainability costs more, pointing out that it brings significant savings and benefits to the sector. The CEO pointed out that, with proper care, it is possible to double the mileage of tires. He also spoke of the importance of the retreader, who he considers to be the best school for understanding and working with tires, due to his detailed and artisanal knowledge of the product.

According to the ABR, a retreaded tire offers equal or greater mileage than a new one, at a 75% lower cost. It is an environmentally responsible process, as it reduces waste and extends the useful life of tires. Retreading adds new stages to the extraction, processing, use and disposal cycle.

In addition to the debates, the two fairs bring together various new developments and innovations for the sector. Check out some of them below:

Bonfanti

Bonfanti is presenting a special launch that further highlights its capacity for innovation and excellence in the production of machinery and equipment for the rubber industry. For the first time, the company is exhibiting the complete 240-liter mixer body and loading unit at the fair, a machine with a large production capacity. This mixer is designed to maximize efficiency in the rubber mixing process, with interconnected motors that guarantee a homogeneous and consistent mix.

This launch demonstrates not only the robustness and efficiency of Bonfanti’s products, but also its ability to meet large-scale demands in the industry.

In addition, the company also brought the body of its 40-liter mixer, the smallest in the range, which exemplifies the versatility and adaptability of the company’s products for different production needs.

Zanaflex Borrachas

ZanaFlex Borrachas stands out as a supplier of accelerated masterbatch rubber compounds (a plastic compound made up of a concentrate of pigments or various additives, in the form of granules, used to color or add other properties to the desired thermoplastic resin), serving the agricultural, automotive and various other segments that use rubber as a raw material in the manufacture of end parts.

This year, the company is introducing an innovation in personalized service, with a team specializing in new developments, offering solutions tailored to the specific needs of each customer. In addition, Zanaflex is focusing on solutions to replace raw materials that are in short supply on the market, thus guaranteeing the continuity and efficiency of its customers’ production.

Dow

During the three days of the fair, Dow is presenting to the public the SILASTIC™ Self-Sealing Tire, an innovation in self-sealing tires with silicone sealants. This technology allows tires to maintain pressure after punctures, eliminating the need for immediate repairs. It also facilitates tire recycling, reduces vehicle weight and improves fuel efficiency. Tire manufacturing is simplified, with no need for pre-cleaning, which reduces energy consumption and environmental impact.

LANXESS

Lanxess, the specialty chemicals multinational, is highlighting its sustainable solutions for rubbers, including additives, release agents and vulcanization products, with innovations such as the sustainable antidegradant Vulkanox, using ECO or Green Tire technology, which helps tires grip better on wet roads, making driving safer for motorists, and Rhenocure, an additional accelerator that accelerates quickly, allowing precise control during rubber hardening processes.
